COLUMBUS (WCMH)–Millions of dollars have already been raised across the country for victims and families affected by the Orlando shooting.
These fundraisers are breaking records, showing an immense amount of support for the LGBTQ community. Highball Tavern hosted an event Thursday night, with proceeds going directly to Stonewall Columbus. From there, it will go to help Orlando shooting victims and their families.
Charles Himes, manager and event director for the bar, said the amount of money raised is “the one silver lining I see” after the massacre that left 49 people and the shooter dead.
“It’s truly humbling to see how much people are willing to give to those in such a terrible situation,” he said.
Entertainers, such as Veronica Skyy, donated their time and tips for the fundraiser.
“I’m glad that our community is standing strong at this time where we need to be strong,” she said.
Tom McCartney with Stonewall Columbus said he wanted to reassure the community that this weekend’s Pride will be the safest yet.
“We’re showing who we are as a community and we are going to be pushed away because something like this happened,” he said.
