Mother killed, four children injured in crash south of Newark

LICKING TOWNSHIP, OH (WCMH) – A Newark woman is dead and her four children were injured in a head-on crash Wednesday evening in Licking County.

According to the Granville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it happened around 5pm Wednesday on State Route 13 near Dorsey Mill Road in Licking Township.

Connie Harkin, 40, of Newark was driving her 2008 Dodge Caravan south on S.R. 13 when she was struck head-on by a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado that went left of center driven by 37-year-old Mark Dingess of Centerburg.

Harkin was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A 14-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl were taken to Licking Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An 11-year-old girl was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital by helicopter with serious injuries.

Dingess suffered only minor injuries and refused treatment.

Troopers say driver fatigue may have contributed to the crash.
