Ohio grandmother sprays kidnapper with perfume to get away

MIDDLETOWN, OH(AP/WCMH) – A 61-year-old Butler County grandmother says she used a bottle of perfume and a swift kick to get rid of a kidnapper.

The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reports a masked man approached Joyce Kenney as she stepped out of her Middletown home, grabbed her and forced her to drive him through the city.

Kenney says she sprayed the man in his eyes with perfume and kicked him out the door. “I reached over and kicked him as hard as I could. He went out the door. I tell you I saw him bounce on the street,” she told the paper.

She then drove to a gas station where she called police and waited for officers to arrive.

“It was either me or him and I knew that…” Kenney told WCPO.

The suspect is still at large. The incident remains under investigation.

Of the spray, Kenney says she always keeps a bottle in the car. “You never know when you might need some fresh spray,” she said.
