A 16-year-old girl from Grand Rapids, a small town near Toledo became the fourth person to earn a golden buzzer on this season of America’s Got Talent.
Calysta Bevier told the judges she is a survivor of stage three ovarian cancer. Before starting her performance, she told judges, “I came here today to show people that no matter what you’ve gone through, to keep chasing your dreams.”
Bevier then started singing a rendition of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” that brought the audience and the judges to their feet.
“It was amazing, your tone, the way that you fell off the note was just on-point. Couldn’t have gone any better for you,” said judge Mel B.
The highest praise came from Simon Cowell himself. “I think you’re really special. I’ve just got this really incredible feeling about you,” Cowell said. “G past this stage, I predict great things are going to happen for you. There’s something about you.”
Simon then said, “Sorry, I’ve got to do this,” as he got up and walked over to press the golden buzzer, sending Bevier straight to the live rounds of the show.
America’s got talent airs at 8pm on Tuesdays on NBC4.
