Dad charged after child left in hot car, tried to save her by placing baby in fridge

COLLIN COUNTY, TX (WCMH) — A man is facing manslaughter charges after he left his 6-month-old child in the family’s van for four hours.

According to KTVT Michael Thedford, 33, told officers he had just returned home from dropping off two other children at daycare, when he went inside his home and took a nap.

After he woke up, Thedford realized what he had done and according to court documents “…brought the child into the house and placed the child into the refrigerator (while keeping the door open) for an undetermined length of time prior to calling 911.”

The child would be declared dead by medics.

Neighbors say they are stunned with the charges. “It’s heart-breaking since on Sunday, he was having so much fun with his family and enjoying his father’s day,” Fabiola Contreras told KTVT.
