World’s largest uncut diamond expected to sell for $70 million

LONDON (WCMH) – At 1,100 carats, it’s the largest uncut diamond in the world, and it can be yours if the price is right.

The gem is called ‘Lesedi La Rona’ and it will be auctioned today by Sotheby’s in London.

It’s about the size of a tennis ball.

The diamond is expected to go for at least $70 million, but the sale price could be uncertain because the fallout from the Brexit vote has put a damper on some other auctions in London.

The British pound has lost more than 10 percent of its value.

‘Lesedi La Rona’ means ‘our light’ in a local language in Botswana, where the diamond was discovered.
