COLUMBUS (WCMH)–Groups of people anxious to get the best spot for Red, White and BOOM! 2016 are popping up everywhere downtown.
Dan Howard said he’s not taking any chances on missing out on the perfect spot to watch the show.
He was sitting in his chair along the river by 10:30 Thursday morning.
“I think you have to be a little bit nuts to do this and it’s okay we’ve been coming for about 25, 26 years,” said Howard.
“My kids love it. We love it. It’s just something you do if you want a really good spot. You got to get down here early.”
Event organizers said those attending the fireworks couldn’t begin setting up their spot and taping it off until 5 p.m. Thursday.
Howard came and sat in his chair to make sure no one took his spot before 5 p.m.
“This is fantastic right here. You’ve got shade of the bridge.”
“It looks like it’s gonna be a good spot, not too close, a nice angle so, yeah, I like it,” said Howard.
No tarps or tents are allowed to be set up until Friday.
No stakes are allowed.
No spray painting the turf or sidewalks is allowed.
