Robbery suspects exchange gunfire with police

REYNOLDSBURG, OH (WCMH) — A Columbus police officer was involved in a shooting after walking in on robbery in progress at a Reynoldsburg area Speedway early Monday morning.

According to Columbus police, an officer was stopping in to make a purchase at the Speedway at the corner of Brice Road and Gender Road when he saw a suspect with a weapon in the middle of a robbery. The officer confronted the suspect, and shots were fired.

The suspect was able to run away, dropping bags full of cigarettes as he ran towards Brice Road before getting picked up in a vehicle, according to police.

Columbus police say the suspects left in a dark colored vehicle parked near the Speedway. They found a gun and a duffle bag at the scene along with dozens of cigarette packs spilled in the parking lot.

The clerk was only able to give a vague description of the suspect, saying he stood around 6’4″ and was wearing a mask and gloves.
