Franklin Co. Sheriff’s Office evacuated after suspicious powder found in letter

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Columbus Fire Department’s Hazmat Units were called to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Thursday, after a suspicious powder was found in a letter.

According to Columbus firefighters, an employee in the sheriff’s office opened a letter that contained a white powder and some kind of threat. The area around the office was evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters say the evacuation only affected the sheriff’s office space, and not the rest of the building.

Hazmat crews investigated the substance and determined there was no threat. Firefighters have cleared the scene.
