Police identify woman who drowned in Whitehall pond

WHITEHALL (WCMH)–The city of Whitehall has confirmed that rescue crews pulled a woman’s body from a pond on East Main Street Thursday afternoon.

Police identified her as Rhonda S. Myers, 49, who was last known to be homeless. They say the death is being investigated as accidental.

NBC4 spoke with a man who says he was friends with Myers, and he saw swimming in the pond Wednesday night.

He says they were fishing and hanging out with friends next to the water, and everyone thought the woman had gone home with a friend.

When he didn’t hear from her Thursday, he got worried and came back to the pond, when he discovered her body floating in the water and then called police.

Police are still investigating.

Crews were called to the pond around 4:00 p.m. Thursday.
