COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A Columbus man accused of shooting and killing his niece and injuring his nephew should have never had a gun in the first place, according to the Franklin County Prosecutor.
Milous Keith, 59, is accused of shooting his niece and nephew while they watched TV at their grandmother’s house.
His niece, 12-year-old Cheyenne Stewart died from her injuries. His nephew, 10-year-old ThaiJuan Green, ran to a neighbor’s house for help after he was shot.
Keith was indicted on one count of murder, one count of aggravated murdr, one count of attempted murder, one count of felonious assault and one count of weapons under disability.
“Based on two prior Felonious Assault convictions, this man was not allowed to possess the gun he used to shoot and kill his niece and to shoot and injure his nephew when he tried to quiet them down,” said Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Ron O’Brien.
Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene. Her brother was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Police say he is expected to survive.
Keith is expected to appear in court his afternoon.
