Hit-and-run suspect leaves critically injured girlfriend after crashing twice

NASVHILLE, TN (WKRN) – A woman was critically injured after police said her boyfriend crashed their car into a utility pole in Hermitage late Friday night.

They reportedly exited Interstate 40 onto Old Hickory Boulevard at exit 221B and rear-ended a car around 11:30 p.m.

Police have identified the driver as 51-year-old Robert Weaver.

Weaver continued to drive and then crashed his red Ford Explorer into a utility pole at Old Hickory Boulevard and ell Road, according to police.

The woman suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Weaver reportedly ran from the scene of the second crash but was later caught by police.

According to arrest affidavits, police found Weaver hiding on his back patio. His clothes were reportedly wet from running through grass and he had blood on his arms and clothes.

Weaver was described by police as having bloodshot, watering eyes and slurred speech.

After he was brought back to the scene of the accident, he reportedly asked police, “Where is my girlfriend?”

He faces eight charges, including vehicular assault, failure to render aid, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

His bond was set at $115,000, and his court date was set for Tuesday, August 9.

Metro police’s fatal investigation team investigated the crash due to the woman’s life-threatening injuries.
