Usain Bolt had too much fun at his press conference

Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt took the stage Monday for his press conference prior to the track and field competition at the 2016 Olympics.

Sure, he answered some questions. He confirmed that Rio will be his final Olympics, saying “I have done everything and have proven myself.”

But what he said was almost an afterthought compared to the spectacle of the event.

To begin with, there was not an empty seat in what was reportedly the biggest theater in South America:

An old journalism adage that declares, “no cheering in the press box.” But apparently that does not apply at Bolt’s press conferences:

A “reporter” rapped a message for the world’s fastest man. Bolt was so entertained that had the “reporter” repeat the message to post on social media:

And if you’re wondering why he said “I hope you win. I hope it’s your day. I hope you will go even though you got hit by a Segway”:

Bolt strutted with Samba dancers:

He also had some fun at the expense of fellow Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell:

A journalist even won a pair of autographed spikes from the world’s fastest man:

Bolt is expected to step on the track in Rio for the first time on Saturday in the 100m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
