It looks like we could see a rematch of the London Games in Rio. Great Britain and Australia are both strong teams and favorites to get on the podium. Sir Bradley Wiggins and Team GB have been breaking world records in practice according to their endurance coach. Wiggins was quoted as saying, “Anything less than a gold will be a huge disappointment, the way we’re going at the moment.” However, Australia stunned Team GB at the World Track Championships earlier this year in London. But Aussie cyclist Michael Hepburn knew after that race they would have to do better. “For sure, we will have to ride three seconds faster than that to win gold in Rio.”

Team USA won the World Championships in March for the United States’ first ever pursuit title, male or female. Led by veteran cyclist Sarah Hammer, the U.S. bested Team Canada in the finals; they could sneak their way on to the podium. Long-time rival Great Britain will be looking for redemption in Rio after their underwhelming showing at the world championships. Annette Edmondson leads a strong Team GB looking to topple the United States. The Australians crashed in training this week. Melissa Hoskins was hospitalized, but she in confident she will race in the pursuit.
