COLUMBUS (WCMH)–A Columbus artist said the Olympics are the inspiration behind his latest artwork. His phone’s been ringing off the hook ever since he shared photos online.
Marc Thomas describes himself as an urban abstract artist. He hopes that, just like the Olympics, his paintings help bring us all together.
Paint. Brushes. Canvas. And, the Olympics. A perfect formula for what Thomas said has been his most popular collection ever.
“As I watched the Olympics I began to do more and more and more,” said Thomas.
“It takes you away from everything else going on in the world today and it brings you to a positive place,” he said.
While watching the games, Thomas got lost in the brushstrokes.
“I saw the unity, just the whole peaceful aspect.”
Creating paintings of athletes on the rings, in the water and sand. He said his work uses all the colors of the rainbow on purpose.
“The Olympic symbol is a whole bunch of different colors. As you see with the artwork, it’s a whole bunch of different colors as well. All the colors evoke emotion.”
He said sports bring everybody together. He hopes his art has the same effect.
”You wish the Olympics could represent everyday life with all the unity and stuff that’s going on.”
Thomas painted 27 pieces in less than a month, the most he’s ever done.
