Crime alert issued after OSU area robberies

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – Just a day before the majority of students return, police are urging caution after two female students were robbed near campus.

According to Columbus police, a female student was robbed in the area of East Frambes Avenue and Tuller Street. The victim told police that the suspect approached her with a gun, so she threw her belongings in his direction and ran.

No injuries were reported.

Police described the suspect at a black make standing between 5’9” and 5’11” and weighing between 140 and 160 pounds. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a black bandana.

Police said a similar crime happened on Thursday.

Another female student was reportedly robbed at gunpoint near Pearl Alley and 13th Avenue.

She described the suspect as a black male between the ages of 35 and 45, standing 5’10” and weighing between 150 and160 pounds.

Police sources tell NBC4 they believe two or three suspects are responsible for at least seven armed robberies near campus over the past three weeks.

On August 12, four victims reported being robbed in two separate incidents. In both cases the suspect was deceived as a white male with dark hair and a beard. One robbery occurred near E. 12th Ave and Summit St.. The other incident occurred near E. 17th Ave. and High St.

Police ask that anyone with information call CPD at 614-645-4545.
