HOUSTON, TX (WCMH) — A Texas man and woman are facing child endangerment charges after police say they left their two young children in a hot car while they got high on synthetic pot.
Ashlea M. Jones, 26, and Christopher Alexander, 27, remain in jail, KTRK-TV reports.
According to court documents, police say the couple intentionally left a 2-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy inside a car without air conditioning in a high-crime area. The couple also failed to take the boy to an emergency care provider, police said.
Police said neither Alexander nor Jones were equipped to supervise the child because of their altered mental states, NBC affiliate KPRC-TV reports.
Witnesses say the kids were wearing dirty diapers and were found sleeping in the hot car. The children were treated by medicial staff but are okay.
The children were placed into foster care after their parents were arrested. Their mother is vowing to fight the charges.
