Super Mario steals the show at the Closing Ceremony

Japan's Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe transports from Tokyo as Super Mario

Perhaps the most recognizable character in the world, Super Mario, entered our lives in 1985, and now has entered Rio – in the only way Mario knows how –  from a renowned green pipe in Tokyo.

Japan, roughly 11,500 miles from Rio de Janeiro, will be home to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

It is apparent that the Olympic Games require years of preparation, and with four years to go, Japan is currently warming up for the 2020 Games.

Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe, was unsure he would make it to Rio in time for the Closing Ceremony, so what do you do when you need to speed up time travel?

Morph into Super Mario, of course.

With the help of other fictional characters that Japan has brought to your homes, such as Hello Kitty and Pac-Man, Abe (now in Super Mario form) jumped in the green pipe from Tokyo and headed to Rio.

And in lightning-fast Mario fashion, the iconic fictional character that has brightened your television screens from your Nintendo console appears once more all the way from Japan, back again as Shinzo Abe.
