Toddler survives capsized boat after being found in pocket of air

COCOA, FL (WESH) For more than an hour rescuers searched for the toddler.

A family of four, including two young children, are recovering after their boat capsized in Cocoa, Florida.

Emergency crews responded to the Indian River at 10:40 p.m. Friday after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting an overturned boat.

The adults and an infant on board were quickly located. A family on another boat helped pull the victims to safety.

Rescuers stayed in the water for nearly another hour searching for a 23-month-old-girl. She was trapped underneath the overturned boat, but managed to stay afloat in a small pocket of air. Officers were able to pull her out safely.

“Thank you for saving my baby,” said Tammy Bossare, the girl’s mother. “And saving our world. I can’t imagine. I just can’t imagine.”

The child was listed in good condition and was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
