ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) Two would-be robbers shot each other during an attempted armed robbery Saturday in the Royal Gardens Subdivision in Opelousas.
According to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, detectives received a call from two local hospitals about gunshot wound victims who reported that they had been shot in the Royal Gardens Subdivision.
Guidroz said 18-year-old Brandon Louis suffered a single gunshot wound to his left pinky finger and 21-year-old Khalil Sam was shot in the upper chest.
According to Guidroz, an investigation revealed that Sam received a phone call from an acquaintance identified as Christopher Andrus.
Andrus allegedly stated that he was in the Royal Gardens Subdivision and needed a ride back to Port Barre.
“When the victims arrived to pick up Andrus, two males identified as Brandon Louis and Khalil Sam ran up to his truck both armed with a firearm. Sam went to the driver side window and Louis went to the passenger side window.
Louis attempted to strike them with the firearm when the passenger hit his arm. The gun fired striking the victim[Louis] on the left pinky finger and Sam in his upper part of his chest,” Guidroz said.
After the gunshots Louis, Sam, and Andrus fled the scene.
Guidroz said Andrus and Louis went to the sheriff’s office where they told authorities that Sam was shot by accident when the three were together and Louis dropped a gun.
“When detectives confronted Louis and Andrus with the evidence, both verbally confessed to the attempted armed robbery and the shooting.”
Louis and Andrus also confessed that the same shot that struck the victim also struck Sam in the chest, ” Guidroz said.
Detectives were able to recover the gun used in the armed robbery.
Andrus and Louis was then arrested and booked at the parish jail.
After his release from the hospital, Sam was booked at the parish jail.
Brandon Louis was arrested and charged with armed robbery and attempted second degree murder. His bond is set at $350,000.
Christopher Andrus was arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit armed robbery. His bond was set at $100,000.
Khalil D. Sam was arrested on charges of armed robbery and has a bond set at $100,000.
