Dog shot in the face getting second chance at life

MADISON COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — A dog that was shot in the face and left for dead in Madison County is getting a second chance at life.

Chance, the one-year-old Pitbull is now living his life as a happy loving dog, something that was not reality just three months ago.

Investigators say back in May, the dog’s owner, 25-year-old Joseph Gray, shot the dog in the mouth. Police then arrested Gray.

Chance was found along the side of Arbuckle Road and Route 38 in London. Blood spilling out of the dog’s eyes and mouth.

Doctors at MedVet in Hilliard operated on Chance, but because it was too risky they weren’t able to remove the bullet lodged in the back of his throat.

Tony Maust, an employee at the Madison County Humane Society helped nurse the pup back to health.

“He didn’t show any signs of aggression at all he never raised a hair,” said Maust. “He gets along with any dog you put him with. He gets along with any new person you put him with, he’s not shy.”

That’s what Rachel Deutscher loves about him. She read about Chance’s story on Facebook and immediately fell in love.

“I just looked at those pictures and I felt so sorry for him,” said Deutscher.

Deutscher would visit Chance for the next three months as he recovered at the humane society. Eventually she would foster him and take him home.

“He has become a part of my family. He loves the kids. He’s just a big loveable baby,” Deutscher said.
