VIDEO: NJ transit officer drags man from tracks just seconds before train arrives

SECAUCUS, NJ (WCMH)–A New Jersey Transit police officer saved a man who was lying on the railroad tracks in Secaucus on Friday, just as a train was arriving at the station.

In the video, you can see Officer Victor Ortiz tugging on the man’s arm, even as the man is trying to resist him. Ortiz drags the man out of harm’s way seconds before the train rumbles by.

NBC New York reports that NJ Transit praised Ortiz on Sunday.

“Officer Ortiz’s selfless and heroic actions demonstrated a level of bravery and a true sense of compassion and purpose that often goes unrecognized but is ever present in our law enforcement community,” said NJ Transit in a news release. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
