Arson suspected after two Linden area houses destroyed by fires

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Firefighters say two fires that started overnight in the north and south Linden neighborhoods may have been started by the same person.

The first fire happened around 2 this morning at a vacant home on Grasmere Avenue. The home was destroyed by the fire.

Investigators said the fire was considered suspicious.

A second vacant home went up in flames about a half mile away on McGuffey Road.

A teen living next door told NBC4’s Katie Love that he saw someone leaving from the home at the time of the fire.

“I looked out the window and I seen glass that part of the house on the floor. So I went to my moms room and I was like mom someone’s outside and she’s like what so they woke up quick and they looked out the window because they thought someone was breaking into their car,” said Damiahna McGhee.

Fire investigators say that bases on the timing, they believe the fires were set by the same person. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
