ODNR: Large animal in Powell is likely woman’s missing house cat

POWELL, OH (WCMH) — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says the large cat spotted in Powell over the weekend is likely a woman’s missing house cat.

State wildlife officer Maurice Irish says he went out to measure the electrical box near where the cat was photographed. Irish estiamtes the cat was around three feet long.

A mountain lion would measure between five and six feet long, according to Irish.

Irish also said he received a voicemail from a woman in the area who said she recognized the cat as her missing tabby cat. The woman told him that her missing cat is large, weighing around 20 pounds.

Speculation about the cat ran wild after Powell Police shared cell phone video of the cat over the weekend showing it running through a back yard.
