Pennsylvania neighborhood rescues 30 rabbits from house fire

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA (WPXI/WCMH) — More than two dozen rabbits and dog were rescued from a burning home in Pennsylvania Monday while the owner was at a rabbit show.

Everyone in the Stroughton Beach neighborhood knew that Paul Leasure, the owner of the home, raises rabbits and raced to his house to rescue the creatures the blaze.  While most of his belongings and his home are destroyed, he’s grateful his neighbors saved the animals.

“I’d do the same for them,” Leasure said. “I’ll tell you what, I’d do the same for them.”

One of the neighbors, Don Gavulvich even beat the firefighters there. Gavulvich and the rest of the neighborhood pulled 30 rabbits and the family dog from the flames.

“The neighborhood came together and we pulled all the rabbit cages out,” Gavulvich told WPXI.  “He still has everything that means everything to him. He’s got his health, he’s got his girl, he’s got his rabbits, which means everything to him.”

Firefighters have yet to determine what caused the fire.
