Flags placed on Statehouse lawn honoring those who died on 9/11

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – The Ohio Statehouse is marking the 15th anniversary of the September 11th attacks with a stunning tribute on the west lawn.

Thursday, 2,977 flags were placed on the lawn, each representing someone who died on 9/11. A group of Ohio firefighters were among the volunteers setting out the flags.

“I think to us as firemen, it really was an awakening to a lot of people of what we actually do in our jobs. 343 firemen lost their jobs that day and it’s a great way for us to help remember that and memorialize them and what we do today here in Columbus,” said Columbus Division of Fire Lieutenant Stuart Mack.

This is the 14th year for the display, which can be viewed until 5pm Monday.
