Police: Man claims he’s a ninja after attacking Columbus Kroger employee

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A Columbus man sits in jail, after police said he tried to steal a case of beer and attacked a Kroger store employee, while claiming to be a ninja.

The alleged incident occurred at the Kroger, located at 150 West Sycamore Street.

According to court documents, Melvin Bell entered the store, on Wednesday morning, and attempted to leave without paying for a 30-pack of Natural Light.

Investigators said a store employee tried to stop him, at which point Bell swung the beer at the employee’s head and threw several punches.

Bell told responding officers he was a ninja practicing his moves and he never struck the employee, according to court documents.

According to his attorney, Bell denies the accusations.

He was being held on a $10,000 bond.
