LAWRENCE, MA (WCMH) — The heartbreaking video shows the 2-year-old girl crying as her mother lay unconscious in the middle of a store aisle.
Police tell WFXT, they plan to charge the mother with child endangerment after video surfaced showing the toddler screaming and tugging on her mother’s limp body.
“It’s very, very disturbing to see someone obviously in the matter of addiction, where it overtakes someone to the point where they’re not able to take care of their child, leaves their child vulnerable,” says Lawrence Police Chief James Fitzpatrick.
Police say the woman apparently overdosed on an oral version of heroin or an opiate-based narcotic like fentanyl, and was only revived after two doses of narcan.
Police hope that the video serves as a reminder to the public of the horrific consequences of drug abuse.
“They can see firsthand the power of the narcotic and fentanyl, and she’s lucky to be alive,” Fitzpatrick tells WFXT.
