COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A burglary suspect is recovering from a gunshot wound after he was shot by the homeowner of a house police say he was trying to rob.
Columbus police say around 4:35am Friday, they found Fredrick Eisnaugle, 27, in the 80 block of Dana Avenue in the Franklinton area. He was suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to Mount Carmel West Hospital in stable condition. He is expected to survive.
Officers later learned Eisnaugle suffered the gunshot wound when he tried to break into a home off South Princeton Avenue. The 55-year-old homeowner told officers he heard someone kick in the back door. He then shot the suspect when he found him inside the home.
Police say Eisnaugle fled the scene, but he was located a short time later.
Eisnaugle now faces aggravated burglary charges. The homeowner has not been charged with a crime.
