Baby lowland gorilla born at Columbus Zoo

POWELL, OH (WCMH)–The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium says a baby gorilla was born at the zoo early Wednesday morning to parents Macombo II (“Mac”) and Tabibu.

The western lowland gorilla is named JJ. Its sex has not been determined, as keepers “do not want to interfere with the mother’s bonding.” JJ and Tabibu will likely remain behind the scenes fro several months.

The zoo says Mac has been a surrogate father to two baby gorillas, but JJ is his first biological offspring. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
