Couple dead, driver injured after Fayette County crash

FAYETTE COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — A South Salem husband and wife are dead and a third is at the hospital following a crash Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 5:50pm near the intersection of Snow Hill Road and Greenfield-Sabina Road. The Fayette County Sheriff’s office said driver Peggy Lightle, 62, and her husband, 60-year-old Martin LIghtly, were killed in the crash.

According to the sheriff’s office, a 24-year-old man driving a Tacoma pickup truck ran a stop sign and struck the couple’s vehicle.

The man was taken by helicopter to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.

The pickup truck caught fire sometime after the crash. A neighbor stepped in to help put out the flames.

Chief Deputy David Bivens called the crossing “a very bad intersection.”

“We have had other serious crashes and I believe fatal crashes at this intersection before,” he said.
