PLEASANT HILLS, PA (WPXI/WCMH) — A popular national party supply store is in hot water after an employee allegedly refused to fill a balloon order after finding out the balloons were for a police officer’s memorial service.
Karly Lane said she stopped at Party City in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania, to buy blue and black balloons for a memorial ceremony for a friend who was killed in a motorcycle accident. Her friend, Robert GoGo, Jr., happened to be a police officer.
Lane told WPXI that the clerk said she refused to support a police officer and asked another Party City employee to wait on her.
GoGo’s sister Jennifer Martino was shocked and hurt when she heard the story from Lane.
“How can you not support a police officer?” she asked. “it doesn’t matter. They don’t know my brother. They don’t know what kind of man he was. They don’t know what he did in his job. It just hurts.”
Party City’s corporate office has launched an investigation into the matter and released the following statement:
Party City is committed to our customers and the community. Corporate management is looking into the matter to uncover what transpired and will take action accordingly.”
When WPXI contacted the manager at the Pleasant Hills Party City store, the manager said, “We support all police officers,” and referred the media to the corporate office for any follow up questions.
