Man dead after east side shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH)–One man is dead after a shooting on the city’s east side.

Columbus Police say the shooting happened just after 12 p.m. Saturday on Saranac Drive. A woman called the police and said her boyfriend had been shot. Police say 43-year-old Shawn Chambliss was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 12:41pm.

Investigators say according to witnesses and evidence collected at the scene, Chambliss knew the suspect(s) who shot and killed him. He came out to meet them in the parking lot of an apartment complex and then ran away from them. Police say one of the suspects then chased and shot at him. Robbery may have been a motive for the shooting.

Police say the suspects were driving a dark colored, possibly blue, SUV. One of the suspects was described as a dark-skinned black male, wearing a black ball cap with a flat rim/bill and a black shirt. The second suspect was described as a black male, wearing a white t-shirt and possibly blue jeans.
