Bomb Squad called to check on suspicious package downtown

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The bomb squad reported to Columbus Police Headquarters on reports of a suspicious package overnight.

According to police, a package was found in the back outside of headquarters around 11:30 pm Tuesday.

Police evacuated headquarters. Surrounding roads were closed for a little over an hour.

The Bomb Squad responded and discovered the package was not a bomb. Police on the scene said the package was identified as concrete samples that had been wrapped in Styrofoam. There are some construction projects going on in the area.

The scene is being cleared, and all road patterns will be restored to normal shortly.
