Top Spots: Best haunted attractions in Central Ohio

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Halloween is just around the corner and you know what that means… time to hit up some haunted houses! We asked NBC4 viewers what their favorite haunted attractions in Central Ohio are, and here’s what they told us:

Haunted Hoochie

Although it’s a little pricier than other area attractions, the Haunted Hoochie at Dead Acres is definitely worth the money. Billed as the darkest show on earth, the gruesome scenes are definitely not for the young or the faint of heart. Every year, the show ups the ante with something new, making it bigger and better than the year before. This year’s newest attraction is a “demonic experience” that will scare your pants off!

The ScareAtorium has been named one of the top haunted attractions year after year. Patrons say the performers are outstanding and the makeup, costuming and sets are some of the most elaborate around. Plus, the ScareAtorium now offers escape rooms for a little extra on top of the regular ticket price. Pro tip: This attraction is not recommended for anyone under the age of 13.

Fear Fest

You know and love Flannagan’s for its sand volleyball courts, swim-up bars and blowout St. Paddy’s Day party, but you probably didn’t know that they put on an awesome haunt. Besides top-notch scenes and performers, one of the biggest draws here is that you don’t have to wait in line (and it’s attached to a bar)!

Walking Dead Mansion

This year is the last year for one of NBC4 viewers’ favorite haunted attractions. People say that the Walking Dead Mansion is one of the best haunted houses in Columbus, and if you know the back story, you’d agree. You won’t want to miss out on one of the greatest haunts to grace the Central Ohio area.

Paranormal Penitentiary

How does exploring one of the most famous prisons in the country at night with monsters waiting around every corner sound to you? Every year, the prison experience at the old Ohio State Reformatory delivers one of the most heart-pounding hauntings around. Don’t think the performers and scenes are scary enough? Just remember more than 150,000 prisoners, some the most violent criminals in Ohio, passed through the prison in the 95 years it was a working penitentiary.

Hagan’s House of Horrors

Hagan’s House of Horrors is a must-see haunt for everyone in Licking and Knox counties. This year, the attraction has a new location, with all new sets and outstanding performers waiting to scare the daylights out of you. But Hagan’s House isn’t all doom and gloom — even though you’ll be terrified, you can leave knowing that your ticket purchase helped support local community organizations.

Horror Acres Haunted House

If you love horror classics, you’ll love Horror Acres. The haunt was awarded best Leatherface, best Freddy Krueger, best blood splattering and best entrapment last year, and this year is going to be even better, with new additions and the SAW franchise legacy.

Zombie Park

Prefer to fight back when the monsters are after you? Check out Zombie Park! Grab your paintball gun and slay as many of the walkers as you can with attractions like the Zombie Target Range Test Facility, the Maze at Terminus, Zombie Containment Area 52 and the Zombie Hunting Vehicle!

House of Pain Haunted House

The House of Pain is a little off the beaten path, but it’s one of Fayette County’s best-kept secrets when it comes to haunted attractions. Haunt-goers say it’s just as good as the Haunted Hoochie, and even performers at other attractions rave about how scary it is. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
