MINGO COUNTY, WV (WCMH) – A West Virginia family says they don’t know who to turn to after their dog fell into an abandoned mine.
Ivan Thornsbury tells WSAZ he was coon hunting on September 29 with his four-year-old dog Kate.
Kate disappeared while walking through the woods.
Thornsbury said he used a GPS tracker to pinpoint her location and found out that she was stuck underground in an abandoned mine.
“When I got to this hole right here, she started barking,” Thornsbury told WSAZ. “I couldn’t see her, but I could hear her underground.”
Thornsbury’s stepdaughter Goldie Belcher says she things it would take a lot of effort to get Kate out of the mine, but that effort would be worth it.
“We have exhausted every resource that we know to do, and it’s like either no one cares or no one knows what to do, and I’m not sure which one is worse,” Belcher said.
They have dropped food and water through a crevice, but they are afraid Kate hasn’t been able to get to it.
Now, they can’t hear her barking anymore and hope for a happy ending is beginning to run out, WSAZ reported.
