Daughter saves dad’s life using Facebook to find him a new kidney

BAY CITY, MI (WCMH) — Her dad’s kidneys were failing, so she turned to social media to save his life.

“I was just sitting there and in the back of my mind I was thinking, ‘Yeah, this waitlist thing… that’s not happening. I can find something. I can do something,” Kim Charters told WNEM.

So, on April 7, Kim started “Find Jeff Charters a Kidney” on Facebook. That day she began receiving messages from people interested in donating, and it turns out, one was a match.

Jeff Charters’ time on the transplant list, which averages three to five years, was shortened to six weeks.

“It’s just amazing because in a million years, I never thought I’d find a 100% match,” Jeff told WNEM.

Jeff said his social-media savvy daughter saved his life and he can’t do enough to show his appreciation. “I’d give her the world if I could. There isn’t enough thank yous and hugs in the world for Rachael.”
