GROVE CITY, OH (WCMH) — A threat against a central Ohio school district related to clowns has parents and students on edge and police stepping up patrols. This time, the targets of that threat are schools in Grove City.
Parents received a a phone call from the district early Friday morning about the threat. NBC4 received a number of calls and emails from parents concerned about this post on Instagram from an account called “Clowns Lives Matter.” The post says “Hitting up all Grove City schools. Killing time.”
After hearing about a threat Erica Purtte says there was no way she was letting her child stay at school today.
“When I received a notification that something like this is going on it makes me very concerned, makes me very anxious,” said Purtte.
The Grove City Police Department looked into the post, they say they do not believe it is credible.
“In Grove City we do not have any credible information that anyone has seen a clown or someone dressed up as a clown. We have seen some photos of someone dressed as a clown that has been taken in areas of Grove City,” said Lieutenant Rick Butsko, Grove City Division of Police.
Authorities tell NBC 4 the initial complaint and threats came from a location in central Ohio. Now the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the post.
