POWELL, OH (WCMH) — Say hello to baby JJ!

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium have shared the first pictures of baby JJ with his mom, Tabibu.

The zoo says both are doing great, but they will be behind the scenes for several weeks while they bond.

JJ was born September 28 to parents Macombo II (Mac) and Tabibu.

JJ is Mac’s first biological offspring! He has been an attentive surrogate father for unrelated youngsters, Kamoli and Kamina, previously.

The zoo says JJ comes from a family of world-famous gorillas. His grandmother is Colo, who is the first gorilla born in human care and now approaching 60 years old, is considered the oldest gorilla on record. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
