Man gets 20 years for shooting at George Zimmerman’s vehicle

SANFORD, FL (WESH/AP) — George Apperson, the man convicted of shooting at George Zimmerman in a road rage incident, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Apperson had said he fired at Zimmerman’s truck, but only after Zimmerman point a gun at him.

Zimmerman denied that accusation.

The judge denied Apperson’s request for a bond while he appeals.

Zimmerman is the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of second-degree murder after fatally shooting unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012.

Apperson was convicted by a Seminole County jury last month of attempted second-degree murder, armed aggravated assault and shooting into a vehicle. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
