Columbus (WCMH) – We are now in the peak season for leaf color changes across the state. Several parks are now at peak, and the rest are near peak.
We haven’t had a widespread freeze or killing frost yet this season, but the winds have kicked up, helping to drop some of the leaves off the trees. It will only be a about 2-3 weeks before many trees will be past peak and the colors will fade, so the time to get out is now!
Also, do not forget the warm coat if you are going to be out and about leaf peeping this weekend, as temps will be in the 50s on Saturday, and low/mid 60s on Sunday.
In the Northern Ohio peak colors are showing up at some parks, & many will be there after the big chill this weekend:
In Central Ohio as expected there are many great spots to see peak colors:
In fact, there are more spots in Central Ohio reporting near peak colors than anywhere else in the state:
If you are planning on heading south this weekend, you will not be disappointed either:
Maybe not peak yet, most spots in the southern part are safe bets with the camera this weekend:
The forecast for 2016 is still running on track… maybe even a bit late in the north:
You will notice, normally we should almost be past peak in the north, peaking already in the Central, and getting close in the south…
There are good apps out there (not associated with NBC 4) like Leaf Peepr (Apple & Android), where you can find real time reports from users on leaf color changes. From this app, you can also report and post pictures as well. As with any user submitted apps, there may be some inconsistency, but it can be fun.
