NEWARK, OH (WCMH) — Police say a man stood behind a woman in line at a CVS and tried to take pictures up her skirt using his cell phone.

According to the Newark Division of Police, officers were called to the CVS in the 900 block of N. 21st Street on a voyeur report.

Police say the female victim was waiting in line with the suspect behind her when he used his cell phone and tried to take pictures up the woman’s skirt. The victim and a store employee confronted the suspect, demanding to see his phone. The suspect refused and left the store.

The suspect is described as a white male, wearing an orange tee-shirt and black shorts. The suspect also has tattoos that could be seen in video from the store. Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying this person.

“It’s not only a violation of privacy but it’s a violation of the law. And it’s a predatory act,” said Sergeant Clint Eskins of the Newark Police Department. “Sexual predators do these types of behaviors so this is something that we take it very serious.”

Shoppers say this is a violation of privacy.

“I think that’s absolutely disgusting. And women should not have to worry about people doing things like that,” said Crista Smith.

“This is a privacy thing for a lady or young girl. And this is taking away our privacy of wearing our dresses and dressing up,” said Audrey Neeley.

NBC4 reached out to CVS about the incident. The retail and healthcare company had this to say, in part, “We are committed to ensuring that our stories are safe for customers to shop and fill prescriptions. We are cooperating with the police in their investigation of this incident.”

Newark Police are asking anyone with any information to call Newark Police at 740-670-7205 or Licking County Crime Stoppers 740-349-6888.
