Crash involving school bus closes I-70 in Indiana

HENDRICKS COUNTY, IN (WISH) – A school bus with kids on board was involved in a multiple semi crash on Interstate 70 near Indiana State Road 39 on Friday, according to officials.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 59 just before 1 p.m.

Dispatchers with Hendricks County say, a school bus was involved and kids were on board. Originally dispatchers told 24-Hour News 8 that no students were injured. Indiana State Police later reported a “handful” of students were transported to the hospital.

Officials with IU West Health Hosptial say, seven pediatrics patients were transported to their hospital and five patients were taken to Hendricks Regional Health Hosptial. It’s not clear what the extent of those injuries are.

INDOT said the westbound lanes will be closed for at least three hours.

The superintendent with Mill Creek Community School Corporation said one of his bus drivers is helping transport students from the crash.
