FARGO, ND (WFLA)–Two kittens, trapped by a controlled burn in rural North Dakota, were rescued by a photographer who stopped to take a photo of the fire.
KVLY reported that the two kittens, both just weeks old, were born inside a burn pile, which was soon set on fire trapping them inside.
The photographer Carlos Pacheco stopped to capture the fire.
“I walked over to get some different angles, and I heard a cat meowing, and I kinda looked around and I didn’t see anything, so I took a few steps back over to where I was, and it turns out the cat sort of blended in with the trees,” he told KVLY.
One tiny feline was inside, the other was nearby, breathing in too much smoke.
“It was too hot for me to even get close to it, which is why I was surprised that the cat was even in it, ” Pacheco said. “I had to shield myself with my jacket to even attempt to grab her.”
He used a stick to pull out the kitten inside. He took both kittens to get emergency vet care.
Both kittens are feeling much better now, they got names of Pyro and Manny in foster care. Pacheco says he is considering adopting them, but he hopes that wherever they go, they end up together.
