Man dressed like tree arrested for blocking traffic

PORTLAND, ME (WCMH) – A Maine man was arrested after police say he dressed like a tree and blocked traffic Monday afternoon.

Portland, Maine police say 30-year-old Asher Woodworth was arrested after he walked back and forth slowly through the downtown area dressed like a tree.

Police say when he refused to comply with orders to stop, he was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of obstructing a public way.

Woodworth told WCSH his motivation was to see how people would react to his performance and how it would impact people’s natural choreography.

Police removed dozens of pine branches from Woodworth in order to locate his identification and clear his face for a booking photo. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
