COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The 15-year-old driver told police he refused to stop for them because he was running away.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, early Tuesday morning, a trooper recognized a stolen vehicle from its description and initiated a stop.
Troopers say the 15-year-old male refused to stop the vehicle and led officers on a chase before losing control near Alkire and Demorest roads, hitting a guard rail, and sending the car on its top.
The teenage boy, who was reported missing earlier in the night, suffered a sore back in the crash, and his 16-year-old female passenger suffered cuts to her head and other injuries. Both were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in stable condition.
According to troopers, the boy told them he didn’t stop because he was running away from home.
He has been arrested and is expected to be charged with fleeing and stolen property.
