VIDEO: Man arrested after high speed chase, shooting at Ohio officers

SIDNEY, Ohio (WDTN) — A man is facing multiple charges after a high-speed chase and manhunt in Shelby County.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrested Travis Ray Wickline from Charleston, West Virginia after he stole a car at gunpoint, led police on a high-speed chase and fired several shots at an officer.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Wickline around 3 a.m. on Tuesday. A woman with Wickline, Ashley Nichole Wayson from Charleston, West Virginia, told law enforcement Wickline would be at the Hidden Valley Trailer Park, where they had been staying with his parents.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says the incident began when Wickline stole a car from a woman at gunpoint at the Hidden Valley Trailer Park in Pasco.

Law enforcement began chasing Wickline, with speeds topping 100 miles per hour at times. A deputy stopped the vehicle and ordered Wickline to get out. He exited the stolen car and fired six shots at the deputy.

The deputy returned fire, shooting three times. No one was hit during the shooting. After several moments, Wickline got back in the stolen car and fled the scene.

Wickline returned to the Hidden Valley Trailer Park, where he ran into a cruiser, injuring deputy Frank Bleigh. Bleigh was transported to Wilson Health, where he was treated and released.

At that point, Wickline fled the scene again, stopping to let Wayson out of the car. A deputy arrested Wayson, while other deputies continued the chase.

Wickline drove on SR-29, eventually driving into a wooded area, ditching the stolen can and fleeing on foot. Shelby County detectives interviewed Wayson, who provided information about where Wickline might be.

“She wasn’t being very forthcoming in the beginning but after we talked to her for a little bit, a little while, and got her comfortable, she started telling us the truth and that’s what led us to lot 69,” Shelby County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jim Frye said.

After speaking with the woman, deputies arrested Wickline at the Hidden Valley Trailer Park, where he was hiding at parents trailer on lot 69. Wickline was taken into custody without incident and showed deputies where the gun he used was hidden. Deputies recovered a 38 caliber revolver in the master bedroom of the trailer.

After speaking with the prosecutor, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says Wickline is facing several charges, including attempted murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, Grand Theft Auto, Weapons Under Disability and Failuer to comply with the order or signal of an officer.

Wayson is being charged with Obstruction of Justice. Both are being held in the Shelby County Jail, with charges expected to be filed later on Tuesday.

Wickline was already wanted in West Virginia for aggravated assault with a weapon. Wayson has an outstanding warrant in West Virginia for Conspiracy to Deliver Controlled Substance.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who provided a helicopter. Other agencies assisting included Sidney Police, Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and K-9 Unit, Champaign County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and K-9 Unit, Logan County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Perry Port Salem Rescue, who transported the injured deputy to the hospital. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
