DELAWARE, OH (WCMH)–Police in Delaware are investigating after a 13-year-old girl reported being chased by a man in a clown mask on Thursday night.
The teenager, Kristen Mangan, said the clown had a mask with curly red hair and fake blood dripping down the face.
“I started running and he yelled ‘hey, come back here!’ and I tripped and he grabbed my ankle,” she said.
“I got back up and was able to kick his hand off of my ankle, and I started running, and I ran up the stairs over at the college and I got back over here.”
According to a police report, Mangan was chased from the area of Spring Street and South Sandusky Street, and then up closer to the Ohio Wesleyan campus, around 7:15 p.m.
“Honestly, I thought this might be when I die,” Mangan said. “I was really scared.”
She said she is now afraid to go out by herself.
Her mother, Mandy Seymour, said her son doesn’t even want to trick-or-treat any more.
“(It’s) kind of scary, especially when you can’t even let your kids go a little bit down the ways to just hang out with a friend,” she said.
“I keep my kids on a tight leash. They have to check in every 45 minutes to an hour, and she was only a couple minutes late,” Seymour said. “She’s good about checking in. It was only about three minutes after she didn’t come home that I started getting that parent instinct that something was going on.”
Police say the suspect was described as male, approx. 6’0″ tall, wearing a clown mask that may have red hair attached.
Delaware Police are asking anyone with information to call (740) 203-1112.
Police Captain Adam Moore said this is the first incident of this nature in the city of Delaware.
“This is not funny behavior,” Moore said. “It’s bad behavior and is unlawful behavior. If you are attempting to threaten or harass or alarm someone, again, that is unlawful behavior.”
