Deer-hunter dad accidentally shoots his own kids during trip

LINN COUNTY, OR (WCMH) — Two young children are recovering after their father accidentally shot them during a hunting trip.

According to the Linn County Oregon Sheriff’s Office, the father told deputies he thought he saw a deer so he got out of the vehicle to pursue it.

When he returned to the vehicle his loaded gun accidentally fired, striking both children, ages two and four, in the legs.

The 2-year-old son suffered a broken leg just above his ankle. The 4-year-old daughter was struck in the left shin with metal fragments from the same bullet.

The sheriff’s office says the dad is fully cooperating in the case. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
