Suspected ‘Buckeye Bandit’ shot by Columbus police

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A man shot by Columbus police has been identified as the ‘Buckeye Bandit,’ suspected of robbing around 30 banks in the last three years.

Just after 10:06am, officers were dispatched to the Key Bank location located at 5775 Frantz Road. Officers spotted the suspected robber in a black SUV and chased after him to the 4600 block of Lakehurst Court. The suspect allegedly got out of the vehicle and raised a gun at the officers.

Police identified the man as 27-year-old Ikechi W. Emeaghara.

Emeaghara is charged with one federal count of armed bank robbery.

He was wounded by police after leading officers on a brief chase in the area of Lakehurst Court. He was taken to Grant Medical Center and released from the hospital Tuesday.
